In conjunction with the exhibition,Wrong: A Program of Text and Image, Eighth Veil Presents a night of fiction and video with readings by Janet Sarbanes and Benjamin Weissman and a screening by Kelly Sears.
Janet Sarbanes is the author of the short story collection Army Of One (Otis Books/Seismicity Editions, 2008). She has also published academic articles and cultural criticism, most recently, in such publications as Popular Music and Society, Afterall, Utopian Studies and the anthology Still Moving: Between Cinema and Photography. She is the recipient of a Ph.D. in English from UCLA and teaches narrative theory, cultural studies and creative writing at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. An excerpt from Sarbane’s new novel Wendy’s America: The Adventures of the President’s Daughter was published in the summer 2008 issue of Black Clock.
Benjamin Weissman is the author of two collections of short fiction, Headless (Akashic Books, 2004) and Dear Dead Person (High Risk/Serpent's Tail, 1995). He has written extensively about art, books, music, skiing and pornography for a variety of publications including Artforum, Freeze, Frieze, Los Angeles Times Book Review, Nerve, Parkett, Powder, Salon, and Spin.
Kelly Sears is an animator and filmmaker living in Los Angeles. She holds an MFA in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego. Her work has been shown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Hammer Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Anthology Film Archives, Sundance and in galleries and film festivals internationally. ?
